The International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan, which will be co-hosted by the United Nations in Geneva on January 9, 2023, has received an invitation from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani.
The Prime Minister thanked the Amir over the phone for Qatar’s kind humanitarian assistance following Pakistan’s devastation by floods brought on by climate change earlier this year. He recalled that Pakistan was currently dealing with the enormous challenge of rebuilding and rehabilitation in a way that was climate-resilient.
The Prime Minister emphasized that although Pakistan had made the best use of its own limited resources, more international assistance and solidarity were still needed to meet the enormous challenge of recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the affected areas as well as to create resiliency against future climate shocks.
Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Amir on Qatar’s successful hosting of the FIFA 2022 Football World Cup, noting that it had established a new standard for worldwide sporting occasions. Additionally, the Prime Minister and the Emir of Qatar discussed topics of bilateral and global interest.
